Eighty-four pensioners from across Sleaford and the surrounding villages attended a harvest lunch last month at the New Life Church on Mareham Lane.

They enjoyed a warming hotpot, followed by apple crumble. The event, which is just one of the events held by New Life Church for senior citizens throughout the year, is free of charge.

Such events are only made possible by the number of volunteers that help with cooking, serving and driving guests to and from the venue.

Anna Maltby, one of the event’s organisers said: “It’s such a privilege to serve the older generation, and knowing that several of our guests are unable to socialise with others without someone prepared to give them a lift gives us more drive and determination to provide such a service.”

New Life have been running events for senior citizens for over seven years and have seen numbers increase each year. The team are now looking forward to the annual Christmas Lunch on December 13.
