Firefighters from Sleaford’s retained crew helped round off education sessions for Drowning Prevention Week by getting families involved in a demonstration.
The week was led by Sleaford Leisure Centre and general manager Natalie Wood explained there have been mother and baby workshops on choking and drowning, baby CPR and other skills to prevent drowning, especially with summer here and people tempted to take a dip to cool off.
A crew of four firefighters laid on a river rescue demonstration last week. Firefighter Oliver Brumpton played the part of the drowning man in the River Slea outside the leisure centre, while Crew Manager Darren Coulson explained how they would reach him using either an inflatable hose or a rescue line thrown out. Youngsters were invited to help ‘rescue’ FF Brumpton.
