High School hockey crack shots and guitarist with The Police Andy Summers played in Sleaford

According to The Standard in 1967, the winter term proved to be another highly successful season for Sleaford High School’s hockey teams, who won 18 of their 20 matches.

The 2nd XI were unbeaten scoring 25 goals, conceding only three.

We heard from Andrew Reid of Ruskington about last week’s nostalgia photo of Zoot Money. He saw them play at Quarrington Church Hall on Grantham Road, just a couple of months before playing in the Spalding Rock Festival with the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, The Move and Cream.

Mike Barnes of Sleaford saw them too and said their full name was Zoot Money and the Big Roll Band who had a hit with Big Time Operator, before changing their name to Dantalian’s Chariot.

He said: “Zoot, originally from Bournemouth, was a highly rated organist and played with numerous well known artists in a long career.

“The guitarist in the band (left of picture) was Andy Somers, who later changed his surname to Summers and enjoyed huge fame after forming Police with Stewart Copeland and Sting.”
