Hot mulled wine and mince pies were the order of the day for Sleaford’s chilly, wet, first late night shopping event back in December 1988.

Pictured are panto costume wearing Bejam staff, from left, Jane Henderson, Adel Anderson, Rachel Clarke, Joanne Covell and Sarah Hooper.

The evening, organised by the Chamber of Commerce and Sleaford Town Council, started with Santa arriving by train and riding up to the Market Place on a fire engine.

Emma Albuixech, of Sleaford, contacted us after seeing herself in last week’s Nostalgia page as the “star of the show” Emma Shields at the Kesteven and Sleaford High School senior prizegiving ceremony of 1988.

Shocked Emma said: “It hadn’t occurred to me that one day I would be in the ‘walk down memory lane’ reports! It’s quite frightening really!”

She is currently working at Carre’s as Head of Languages and was sure it would be something her students would be interested to see.
