Mid UK recycling, a Quarrington based company, took staff from agencies including Lincolnshire County Council, the Environment Agency, and Lincolnshire Police on a tour of a materials recycling facility in Caythorpe, owned by Mid UK recycling.

Chris Mountain, manager director of Mid UK Recycling, said: “The event went really well and allowed agencies and firefighters to see our site operating and recognise some of the potential risks that we face.”

Staff then took part in a training exercise without crew (TEWC) at Brant Broughton Fire Station, and an evening exercise at the Ancaster Mid UK recycling site.

Mr Mountain added: “Fires on waste and recycling sites have been in the press a lot over the past few years and we ourselves have experienced them in the past.

“We therefore feel exercises such as this play a crucial role in ensuring the best procedures and practices are in place should anything occur in the future.”
