To commemorate the outbreak of the First World War, and to honour all those who gave their lives in sacrifice, a flag-pole was erected near the War Memorial in Leasingham, outside the parish church of St Andrew. At a special Service of Dedication held on August 2, the Rev Christine Pennock, Lafford Rural Dean, reminded the congregation of the sacrifice given by a whole generation and urged that ‘this should not be forgotten’ and that ‘we should remember that they gave their lives for our future’.
She added that “we owe it to them to remember and to continue to preserve democracy”.
