He had served as a retained firefighter for Sleaford and it was arranged for his coffin to be transported to St Denys’ Church on board a vintage fire engine, which drove in procession through the town on Friday afternoon.

Serving firefighters formed a guard of honour at the entrance to the church for the passing of his coffin.

Donations from the mourners went to the Fire Service Benevolent Fund and St Barnabas’ Hospice.

Arrangements were by Colin Ward Funeral Services.
