Family is raising money in memory of daughter Aimee
FOLLOWING the tragic death of their baby girl from a rare heart condition, a Sleaford family are pledging to raise money to help other children with similar heart conditions.
Leanne and Mark Chamberlain are planning nine months of fund-raising activities from now until February 2013 to raise money for the British Heart Foundation, after losing their month-old daughter Aimee Grace to a viral heart infection.
Aimee was born on February 3 this year and everything appeared to be fine.
Mum Leanne was discharged from hospital the same day she gave birth and, for the first four weeks of her life, Aimee seemed to be a perfectly happy, healthy baby.
Then on March 2, as the family prepared to take Aimee and their two-year-old son Joshua to the park, Mark noticed that she was very pale and wasn’t breathing.
She was taken to Lincoln County Hospital but died two hours later. The cause of death was found to be viral myocarditis.
Leanne said: “Since her death we have just felt completely helpless and we need to do something, that’s why we will be raising money up until Aimee’s birthday on February 3.”
The Chamberlains’ campaign to raise both money and awareness of the condition is now up and running and will end on Aimee’s birthday next year when the family will be taking part in a 17-mile bike ride around Rutland Water.
Other activities they are planning will include bag packing in Tesco in Sleaford and they are hoping to hold a fun day on Eastgate Green beside the River Slea on July 15 if Sleaford Town Council gives permission for the event. Family friends have also pledged to do their bit for the cause.
Full details of these and other events will be confirmed at a later date.
The family want to raise as much money as possible to help other children with heart conditions. To donate to Leanne’s and Mark’s cause, you can visit their JustGiving page at www.justgiving.com/leanne-chadwick
