One-stop shop for elderly a ‘huge success’
A recent survey found that a service to support over-60s is a resounding success with its customers.
First Contact, co-ordinated by Lincolnshire County Council, provides people in Lincolnshire aged over 60 with free advice and support, to help them stay independent and safe in their homes.
Residents are asked to fill in a checklist to identify issues they may need help and advice on, including money and benefits, home and fire safety, housing, domestic help and other problems.
First Contact referrals are then sent to the relevant organisation who will contact the customer within 28 days to provide them with the information and advice requested.
The service was set up in 2009 and has helped more than 7,000 people, with more than 20,500 referrals to partner agencies include Age UK, Adult Social Care, Lincolnshire Police, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, Citizens Advice Bureau and NHS Health Trainers.
Through the survey, 176 customers were contacted, with 88 per cent saying the services they’d received were ‘very helpful’ or ‘helpful’ in helping them to feel safer and more independent in their own homes.
Ninety-six percent said the checklist was ‘very easy’, or ‘easy’ to complete, and 90 per cent of customers said they were ‘very satisfied’ or ‘satisfied’ with the services they’d received.
Alison Whiting, First Contact central co-ordinator said: “The survey has shown we’re providing a really useful service, and it’s great to know that almost all our customers have been pleased with our service, and found it easy to use.”
