Time to aspire to the challenge

ENTRIES are being invited for the fifth annual Spires and Steeples Challenge from Lincoln to Sleaford, which this year takes place on Sunday, October 14.

The Challenge is a charity 13 or 26 mile walk or run starting at Lincoln Castle and finishing in Sleaford, all in aid of Wheel Appeal which provides sports wheelchairs, training and support.

This year’s challenge is being organised by Leisure Connection’s events 0fficer Donna Lill who said: “The Spires and Steeples Challenge has grown year on year and is now a well established event attracting people from all over the country.

“It has become a permanent fixture in many walkers’ and runners’ calendars ,which is fantastic news for the county.”

She added: “We are currently recruiting volunteers to help out on the day, so if you think you can spare some time and maybe help out by being a marshal along the route or even hand out water at a checkpoint, please let us know.

“The challenge would not take place without the kind help and support we receive from volunteers and local groups/clubs, for which we are very grateful.”

Sponsorship is also a vital element to the organisation of the event. To date, sponsorship for this year’s challenge has been secured from Ringrose Law, Lincolnshire Co-operative, Ray Butler Ltd, The Blakemore Foundation and Tesco.

The cost of entering the Spires and Steeples Challenge is £12 in advance or £15 on the day and places are limited to 1,000.

You must be aged 16 or above to participate in the 26-mile run. However, children aged between 14 and 16 can take part in the walking challenge and the 13-mile run if accompanied by an adult.

To enter or to get involved, call Donna Lill on 07980 696884 or email EventsOfficer@leisureconnection.co.uk
