A RUSKINGTON woman has been celebrating after losing a life-changing five-and-a-half stones in weight.

Louise Whetton, 37, first joined a Slimming World group in 2008 while posted with the armed forces to Cyprus with her husband Craig and successfully lost more than five stones in just nine months.

Since then she has kept the excess weight off and was recently voted the Ruskington Slimming World group’s Top Target Member for 2011.

“The hardest thing I had to do was to walk through the door of my group but I needn’t have worried because everyone was so friendly,” said Louise.

“I had been to have my hair cut and, while looking in the mirror admiring my new hairdo, I was horrified to realise that I had at least two double chins.

“That was the final straw. I had put off doing something about my weight for long enough. I didn’t tell any of my family that I had joined or about my success and when they came out to Cyprus to visit us, they walked straight past me at the airport.

“I have gone from a dress size 20 to a size 12. The difference in the choice of clothes is unbelievable. My health is also so much better with my blood pressure, which was extremely high, going down to a normal level.”

Louise puts her success down to the fact that she is able to enjoy all of her favourite foods, especially the home-made curries with rice that are totally ‘syn free’ meaning she can eat as much as she wants.

The Ruskington group meets in the village hall on Parkfield Road on Tuesdays at 7pm. Jenny Holland, who runs the group, says that everyone is so proud of Louise and all of the ‘Target’ members who attend quite free of charge on a regular basis.

“They are our stars,” said Jenny. “The other members know that they are full of good ideas which they are only too willing to share”.
