Leisure centres back stop-smoking campaign with free gym passes and training sessions

LEISURE centres in Sleaford area are backing the Stoptober stop-smoking campaign.

This month Harpers at Sleaford and The NK Centre at North Hykeham are supporting Stoptober, a new, exciting 28-day challenge to stop smoking, by offering residents and their families who are giving up smoking a free, three-day gym pass and a 30 minute personal training session to help assist them in their new healthy lifestyle.

The government campaign has been launched to urge the thousands of smokers across the UK to quit for a whole month, as research has shown that people who manage to stop smoking for that length of time are more likely to not start again. It will involve TV and radio advertising, a daily messaging service and roadshows around the country. There is also a Stoptober app and a Facebook page.

Matt Stothard, Contract Manager at the North Kesteven Leisure Centres, commented: “Shockingly, smoking accounts for one in four cancer deaths so it’s vital that work continues to support smokers to quit. We hope our local residents take full advantage of our offer during Stoptober.”

Passes will be valid for three consecutive days, current members can also bring a family member who will qualify for this offer. Just register at your local leisure centre from now until October 31.
