Tesco has recalled its Mini Monkey milk chocolate biscuits because the presence of peanut protein is not mentioned on the label.
This makes the product a possible health risk for anyone who has an allergy to peanuts, the Food Standards Agency has said.
The exact product name is Tesco Mini Monkey Milk Chocolate Biscuits, with the pack size being 125g (five times 25g).
The re-call relates to all best-before date codes.
A spokesman for Tesco said: “Through testing we have become aware that peanut protein may be present in Tesco Mini Monkey Milk Chocolate Biscuits. The product has a ‘May Contains’ nut warning but peanut is not declared on the product label. This product may be unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of peanuts.”
Customers are advised not to consume the affected products if they are allergic to or intolerant of peanuts and return them to stores where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.
“Tesco apologises to our customers for any inconvenience caused.” the spokesman added.
