A community midwife from Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital has been named the UK’s midwife of the year at a national award ceremony.

Sponsored by Johnson’s Baby, the Midwife of the Year awards are a special way for new mums to say thank you to those who helped them throughout pregnancy and birth.

Karen had already been named the South and Midlands Region Midwife of the Year last week, and was attending the RCM Annual Awards ceremony at top London venue, The Brewery, where she was invited on stage to collect that award from Prof Cathy Warwick, chief executive of The RCM. But then the overall national winner was also announced and Karen was heralded Johnson’s baby Mums’ Midwife of the Year 2015.

The event was compered by TV newsreader, presenter and mum, Kate Silverton.

Karen said: “I feel very honoured to have been nominated for this award and I am delighted to have won. We have a fantastic team and I am very lucky to work with some amazing people, without them we couldn’t deliver the fantastic service that we offer to our patients.

“I am passionate about midwifery and consider the job we do as midwives to be a real privilege. To have been nominated by a mum and to receive this award is very special.”

Zena Barclay, from Heckington, nominated Karen who looked after her throughout her three pregnancies. Most recently, she gave birth to Holly, at Pilgrim in December 2013.
