The youngsters are the latest graduates of the six-month scheme run by 2160 Sleaford Squadron, Air Training Corps.

A graduation ceremony was recently held for the 16, attended by the head of the air cadet movement nationally, Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty, as reviewing officer.

As part of the ceremony each cadet, on hearing their name, had to march into the hall, salute, receive their award, be photographed, salute again, and then march off.

Air Commodore McCafferty told those present: “It is no small achievement for these young people to individually march into a packed hall and present themselves to a senior officer and do it so smartly; it takes a lot of guts when you are so nervous and inexperienced to summon up the courage to overcome your fears and I think we would all agree they did it so well.

She added: “Your sons and daughters have taken the first step in what I hope will be an interesting and fulfilling time with the Air Cadet organisation. I hope we can provide experience and training which will help them in whatever career they aspire to in the future, and I feel the young people who have graduated tonight are really going to benefit from everything the Air Training Corps has to offer, be it at squadron, region or corps level.”

The event also saw the individual awards of Most Improved Cadet presented to Cadet Ashley Jobson, 12, and Best Cadet of the Intake presented to Cadet Jasmine Hodge, 13.
