Only a Neighbourhood Plan can save our town
EDITOR - Saul Bellow said: “New York makes one think of the collapse of civilisation, about Sodom & Gomorrah, the end of the world. That end wouldn’t come as a surprise now. Many New Yorkers already bank on it.”
Council saying two different things
EDITOR – The press release published on December 5 2011 on the Sleaford Town Council website relating to on-going discussions between the town council and Network Rail said ‘The Town Council’s position remains unchanged – if the crossing (the Southgate East railway crossing) is to close, then there should be a trial period to assess the traffic flow’.
Free to shop where and how you want
EDITOR - I’m quite fed up of reading the tirades from our anti-capitalist town council and their friends. All we hear is development is wrong and Tesco is bad.
Do not use children as pawns in adult games
EDITOR - I read the article (on parking outside St Botolph’s School with interest but there are a number of salient points which present in light of this.
Parents blocking our driveways
EDITOR – With regard to your story about parking outside St Botolph’s School, I am one of the residents that have continually complained about
If campaign improves safety it has to be welcome
EDITOR – I have to admit that I was not totally convinced that children should be used in the way they were for the campaign to address the issue of parents parking on the zig-zag lines outside St Botolph’s School (Standard, 8 February).
It does not mean we oppose development
EDITOR – I have enjoyed reading the views of Sleaford and District Civic Trust (Standard, January 25) and Russ Mathieson (Standard, February 1), on development plans for Sleaford.
Using elderly and disabled as stick to beat the rest of us
EDITOR - It would seem that Russ Mathieson, with his comments on the proposed footbridge over the railway at Sleaford station, has well and truly shot himself in the foot.
Impressed by Nathan’s family and friends
EDITOR - I just had to write in and say how impressed I have been at the way the family, friends and acquaintances of young lad Nathan Cook have pulled together since his sad death.
Should new Tesco be outside town?
EDITOR - Why oh why do we need the new Tesco in the middle of town?
No vendetta against supermarkets
EDITOR - Hello George Walker et al. Sorry chaps, but I’m ‘raining here on your parade’.
Surely price is too high
EDITOR – I feel I must thank the instigators of the plan for the extra traffic on our Sleaford roads if the Leadenham recycling site is closed.
Mum-in-law longs to be back in Bonner House
EDITOR – I was sorry to read about the proposed closure of Bonner House.
New road has been a long-term goal
EDITOR - It would seem that North Kesteven District Council and Lincolnshire County Council are intent on building a new road for Sleaford from Mareham Lane to Eastgate no matter what the cost to Sleaford and its people.
I endorse Mr Birks’ communications
EDITOR - I do not have much support for the town councillors at present but I do endorse entirely the contents of David Birks’ communications.
The shops closed when Tesco came
EDITOR - We look forward to the Sleaford Standard each week and the first read is the letters.
Town council should run toilets at peppercorn rent
EDITOR - The Moneys Yards toilets are obviously important to the people of Sleaford.
Keeping ‘dirty’ toilets open is waste of money
EDITOR - The toilets in Money’s Yard are often found to be dirty, filled with litter and without soap or toilet tissue. They are freezing cold, unappealing and frightful.
Don’t criticise Tesco for being successful
EDITOR - I was staggered seeing David Birks’ attacks on Marion Brighton the ‘Dear Leader of NKDC’.
War memorial desecrated by dog mess
EDITOR - Many readers will have noticed that Sleaford’s fine war memorial in Market Place is looking worse for wear and in need of some specialist care and attention.
Traffic priority system at crossing is all wrong
EDITOR – I have to agree with the comments of M Watts in the Standard of January 11 regarding the traffic fiasco at Southgate level crossing.
