Amazed at decision

EDITOR - We moved to Sleaford 13 years ago and have enjoyed a pleasant small town, with friendly facilities and shops and mercifully without two rows of chain stores facing one another.

I am amazed the councils and trade association have agreed the 'improvement scheme' to go ahead, in its present form. Has nobody ever been to a small town where Tesco/Asda have been given permission to get into the centre of the place? They do not attract extra shoppers to the existing area, they cream off the prime pickings.

And this time Tesco even have the cheek to plan redevelopment of their present site into a retail park plus generously introducing another petrol station!

Once this gets under way, nobody should be surprised to see the 'Closing Down' signs along Southgate.

What right have Network Rail to close Southgate level crossing with unseemly haste and without any indication as to who will build the pedestrian bridge, where and when?

This scheme is vandalism and a disaster for the town.
