Council saying two different things

EDITOR – The press release published on December 5 2011 on the Sleaford Town Council website relating to on-going discussions between the town council and Network Rail said ‘The Town Council’s position remains unchanged – if the crossing (the Southgate East railway crossing) is to close, then there should be a trial period to assess the traffic flow’.

My ‘Say No To The FootBridge’ group understood from earlier press releases that the town council’s position was that the railway crossing should not close.

Perhaps the town council can explain how it says one thing to the people of Sleaford and something different to Network Rail.

Not that anything that the town council has to say on the matter holds much sway with Network Rail anyway as the council’s press release then goes on to say that the ‘Network Rail response was that the Town Council’s idea of a trial closure would not be acceptable’.

Perhaps the town council can also explain if their idea of a trial closure of the Southgate East railway crossing includes a ‘trial’ construction of the footbridge for pedestrians at the crossing point and a ‘trial’ construction of the new road over the railway line and through the recreation ground, as it would not be much of a trial without these missing items.

Or are they assuming that these are to happen anyway no matter what the town council’s stated position is in relation to the new road through the Rec?
