Don't spoil town with all the changes you have planned

EDITOR - With regard to the removal of Tesco's store in Northgate, I am much dismayed at the proposed closure of their premises there.

I am one of the hundreds of retired people who will be forced to shop at the Co-op further out of town or Lidl because Tesco are insisting their old store, which is to be converted into four new shops, none of which is to sell foodstuffs.

The closure of the level crossing is because freight trains will increase the use of the railway lines possibly running every 30 minutes. It seems the railway bosses want to remove freight trains from the main lines and use out routes, so the recent upgrade is nothing to do with an important passenger service as reported recently.

The bridge which will be constructed to allow residents from the south of Sleaford to access the town on foot or cycle will have to be fitted with an escalator or lift to allow disabled people to get to the shops in Southgate.

Can you imagine the delight of youngsters vandalising these fittings?

Sleaford is an attractive, small town. As a small town it has attracted quite a large percentage of middle class people who require excellent education facilities for their children and attractive surroundings.

Many of these citizens travel to Grantham each day to commute to London and other large cities.

You have always been able to buy most commodities in Sleaford and if you can't you can always visit Lincoln quite easily, or Nottingham.

Please, local authorities, don't spoil Sleaford with all the change you have in mind. You recently made a very bad decision regarding traffic lights in Market Place and once these suggestions have been carried out there will be no going back.

There is no need to remove trees in the Boston Road recreation ground for the new link road. They could just have compulsory purchase order for some of the ground further out of Boston Road to bring a new by-pass onto Mareham Lane and then swing back to the Maltings and gain access to Tesco's new site.
