Don’t criticise Tesco for being successful
EDITOR - I was staggered seeing David Birks’ attacks on Marion Brighton the ‘Dear Leader of NKDC’.
Mr Birks hardly has room to talk. The letters page seems to have become the David Birks Broadcasting Corporation lately with his insufferable weekly ramblings a permanent feature.
His letter of January 4 was a particular highlight where he wrote an absurd horror story regarding the lighting in the Hub toilets, warning of ‘malicious intent’ and ‘panic setting in’.
The following week he is ranting about Tesco again, albeit in his peculiar and pretentious way. Mr Birks, you claim to support democracy, so why do you want to dictate how people do their shopping?
People and businesses should have freedom of choice, so when Tesco wants to move and open a larger store selling a greater range of products what is wrong with that? Would you seek to ban private enterprise as in the USSR or Cuba?
Businesses have the right to expand and be successful and people have the right to shop where they like.
Mr Birks with his dictatorial Tesco vendetta seems to be against the idea of high street competition but he should remember that Tesco started off as a small market stall in East London and had to fight to make it what it is now.
Instead of trying to punish Tesco for being successful, why doesn’t he ask why other high street businesses are failing?
