EDITOR – What a pleasure it was to read in the Standard of the fantastic successes of two young local people.

Matthew Dieumegard-Thornton’s feat in climbing Mount Everest is an outstanding achievement by any standards.

How many people at the age of 22 can lay claim to have overcome such a remarkable test of character and endurance?

I was also impressed with 15-year-old Katie Howard landing her big break in the theatre world, playing the title role in an international production of the musical Annie.

It is good to see local talent come to the fore in such notable and diverse ways.
