If campaign improves safety it has to be welcome
EDITOR – I have to admit that I was not totally convinced that children should be used in the way they were for the campaign to address the issue of parents parking on the zig-zag lines outside St Botolph’s School (Standard, 8 February).
However, there was no denying the impact that such a picture has and, if it does achieve its aim of making parents more aware of the dangers they are creating by causing potential accident blind spots as a result of their inconsiderate parking, then that is a result we would all welcome.
Of course, time will tell whether the campaign has the desired effect or not. However, from my own experience, some parents on the school run can be very blinkered when it comes to the safety of others, seemingly concerned only with getting themselves as close to the school gates as is physically possible without worrying about the consequences. It may take even more to change the mindset of these parents.
