I have just read the letter from Jeff Gordon. In defence of the Tesco road plans he stated that, “we need the people from Leasingham, Cranwell, Osbournby, Digby, Heckington, Billinghay, Navenby, Waddington to come here”.
There will not be enough time to be able to walk into the town to visit other shops or have lunch in one of the many restaurants and pubs we are lucky to have in Sleaford.
Therefore all those people travelling in to Tesco Extra will be clogging up the roads more than ever and not spending their money anywhere else.
The four lane road will be a lot bigger than you imagine.
Think of the road at the present Tesco. There are bound to be footpaths. That is a huge area to be taken off the rec. The trees are needed to counterbalance threats of flooding. I have been told that without them the Bristol Bowls Green could have problems with drainage.
As far as I can see, unless NKDC is prepared to give free limited parking to the rest of the town you may as well close all the shops.
Tesco is going to be the only winner here.
No one can have missed the number of shops closing even now and unfortunately it has something to do with landlords who have no thought for the struggling retailers and the financial problems still facing us all.
