New road has been a long-term goal

EDITOR - It would seem that North Kesteven District Council and Lincolnshire County Council are intent on building a new road for Sleaford from Mareham Lane to Eastgate no matter what the cost to Sleaford and its people.

It seems to me that this has been on the cards since the 1970s and everything that has been done since then has had this road in mind.

The traffic lights at Southgate level crossing appear to have been set to cause traffic chaos and the council refuses to adjust them to make the flow of traffic easier.

The one-way system from the 1990s was designed to cause traffic problems from Grantham Road. Now the authorities claim that if they close the railway crossing and build a new road bridge it will make Sleaford a more traffic friendly place.

But by closing the crossing and removing those lights they will be replacing that with FIVE sets of lights just to get to Monument corner. Just think of the chaos that will create.

Though that will not affect the town planners as they do not live in Sleaford.
