No vendetta against supermarkets
EDITOR - Hello George Walker et al. Sorry chaps, but I’m ‘raining here on your parade’.
I’ve no vendetta against supermarkets, indeed last week I received my own ‘clubcard’ mailshot. However, considering plurality of choice, I can worry about local adversities brought on by potentially overbearing monopolies.
Now, cast your mind back to my letter about Money’s Yard conveniences. Of whom were the actual subjects of my letter? Unlike you, those people were confined to wheelchairs, so the extra travelling distance to the ‘Hub’ and the conditions prevailing there mattered.
Perhaps you’re not aware that the ‘politically correct’ line concerning access to that building might differ sharply from your understanding.
I’m reliably informed that the seemingly obvious way leading from Carre Street across the river-bridge isn’t actually an unassailable ‘public right of way’.
Therefore you’re currently using it by gracious permission of riparian landowners. That situation could cease at any time should circumstances require.
Similarly the access through Navigation Yard also entails passing through private territory. And there isn’t a Zebra crossing, or any pavement extending to the one further down.
So, what would be an appropriate route then? Are you ready for this?
It’s suggested that you go up Carre Street and use the crossing towards Market Place, then proceed by St Denys’ Church along Eastgate, stop opposite the Mallards Hotel and re-cross the road (no zebra) and enter the ‘Hub’ car park.
Once there, you turn right towards the ‘Hub’ itself. Remember now, that at the time of my letter, it was lonely with approaching darkness.
Also please understand that isolated people are potentially vulnerable, no matter whether it be Sleaford, or New York.
Now, if for any reason you consider writing in to describe the route, which I’ve reported above, to be utterly nonsensical, I couldn’t agree more with you.
