Pupils’ inspirational work for Fairtrade
EDITOR – Due to the re-building at St George’s Academy, the pupils’ Fairtrade Group have utilised a trolley to sell Fairtrade products to staff and pupils throughout this year.
They have averaged a weekly turnover of £41 despite the loss of a fixed point of sale.
They have also started a new way of conveying the news of their achievements, using tumblr, one of the latest social media applications.
Their news is at http://sleaford-fairtrade.tumblr.com/:
I am always inspired by the work, determination and inspiration of the pupils.
We would love to see more schools include Fairtrade in the syllabus, not as an extra item, but as a way of further explaining social responsibility to the youth of today.
It would appear from the work conducted at St George’s Academy that the next generation are keen to get involved and understand.
May we also take this opportunity to express our thanks to the many businesses and organisations that work so closely with the Academy with regard to Fairtrade.
