Young drew crowd

EDITOR -Recent letters have remarked upon the good turnout for the Olympic torch parade as compared with the Jubilee celebrations.

The explanation is simple. The inspired decision to involve local schoolchildren and youth organisations meant that families and friends turned out to support the youngsters.

Many of the people who stood near us during the parade said they would not have turned out if they had not been supporting their children/grandchildren.

My family thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and would not have missed it but we would not necessarily have been there but for the participation of our young family member.

I noticed on TV that the flame in other towns and cities did not show the involvement of so many youngsters.
