A challenge for TV chef Ainsley

Wednesday, 5.30pm. SEVERAL lucky pupils and members of staff from Winchelsea Primary School, Ruskington appeared on the BBC's famous Ready, Steady, Cook programme to take part in a healthy cooking challenge with celebrity Chef Ainsley Harriet.

The school was asked to represent the national Healthy Schools programme, after pupils showed superb dedication to planting and growing their own fruit and vegetables from scratch and starting up a healthy eating cookery club.

Children from Winchelsea Primary School challenged Ainsley to cook a healthy meal in 10 minutes using only five vegetables which they had grown themselves at school. After filming, the pupils and their teachers were invited back stage to see how the show was made and have their photo taken with the Ready, Steady, Cook team.

Janet Flett, regional coordinator for Healthy Schools, East Midlands, said: "The enthusiasm that both students and teachers alike at Winchelsea Primary School have demonstrated to encouraging healthy eating makes it an absolutely first class example of a healthy school.

"I'm absolutely delighted that they were able to champion the Healthy Schools programme. I hope the message about the importance of a healthy diet and lifestyle makes an impression on parents, children and young people who watch the show nationwide."

Over 95 schools in Lincolnshire are part of the Healthy Schools programme, funded by NHS Lincolnshire.
