Are black cats out of luck?

BLACK and white cats appear to have lost their appeal.

The RSPCA Lincolnshire East branch says it is at crisis point due to the large number of black and black/white cats needing to be re-homed.

After fewer cats were re-homed in 2011 than the RSPCA had hoped, the branch is currently running at capacity and has a waiting list of cats to come in to its care.

Of the 29 felines in the branch’s care, 21 looking for a new home are either black or black and white.

Some of the cats have been looking for a home since last February and the branch fears that until some of these animals are re-homed they may not be able to help other cats in need of care.

Cherrie Bartlett, re-homing coordinator for the branch, said: “It is really sad to see so many black and black/white cats looking for new homes.

“These cats are so affectionate and friendly and would make a great pet for whoever is kind enough to give them a fresh start.

“Black cats used to be seen as lucky but in recent years the demand for these animals has fallen and we receive large numbers into our care.

“I would urge anybody who is looking to get a new pet to come and visit us first to see the lovely animals we currently have at the branch.”

The two cats that have been in the centre the longest are Sooty and Blackjack.
