Sheila Oxby, Cub Scout leader and assistant Scout leader for 1st Wellingore Scout Group, has been presented with the Bar to the Silver Acorn award.

It is an honour not normally awarded until at least 25 years of distinguished service.

Sheila, of Navenby, has held the role of Cub Scout leader for more than 30 years.

During this time, she also acted as group contact in the absence of a group Scout leader for more than 10 years.

Once a group Scout leader was appointed, Sheila is credited with helping ensure a successful transition and is said to continue to provide support to all the other leaders in the group.

Simon Lawson, group Scout leader, said: “Sheila’s contribution to Scouting in the district has been immense; without her dedication and selfless commitment over the years, 1st Wellingore Scout Group may have ceased to exist.”

He added: “In recognition of her outstanding achievements and her continued and distinguished service within the district, Sheila is a worthy recipient of the Bar to the Silver Acorn.”
