SUPER Sleaford runners have successfully completed a gruelling run in aid of Kidney Research UK.

Going by the collective name Baker’s Dozen, a group of local runners took part in the Great North Run half marathon on Sunday, albeit with a few substitutions due to injuries and work commitments.

Team member Tracy Armond said: “It was a fantastic day and the weather was perfect, with a bit of drizzle to keep us cool. I did much better than last year, completing it in 2 hours 27 minutes, and I could even walk down the stairs the next day!”

Tracy’s husband Chris crossed the finish line in 2.11, with other original Baker’s Dozen members Kate Cook finishing in 1.43, Stuart Barnshaw 1.41, Lucie Thornton 2.08, Andy Trollope finishing 2.16, Andy Costa 2.27, Des McCauley 2.31 and Allen Savill 3.08.

Tracy’s brother Reg Baker injured his ankle the day before the run but still went along to cheer the team on, as did fellow injured member Tony McCauley, who had to pull out due to a back injury.

Lou McCauley ran in place of Vanessa Gray and completed the race in 2.31 and Jake Collishaw replaced John Frain, and finished the run in 1.41.

So far the team are on target to reach £5,000 for Kidney
Research UK, a charity close
to their hearts as members of
the team have a close family member who is currently on dialysis.

Tracy added: “We can’t stress enough how generous people have been. To be able to reach £5,000 is amazing. There was a great team spirit as we were able to reflect on the race. It was an amazing day.”

The fundraising page for the Baker’s Dozen is still open and accepting donations. To make a donation, visit www.kidneyresearchukevents.org/sleafordstreetparty
