Police are warning Sleaford area residents of a seasonal scam involving undelivered mail or parcels.

You are urged to beware of any emails coming through alerting you of undelivered parcels or letters.

Police sau the email would probably have wording along the lines of: “Royal Mail has detained your package for some reason (for example, lack of a proper invoice, bill of sale, or other documentation, a possible trademark violation, or if the package requires a formal entry) the RM International Mail Branch holding it will notify you of the reason for detention (in writing) and how you can get it released. Please fulfil the documents attached.”

Lincolnshire Police are urging residents not to open any attachments or give any personal details. (Any numbers given may be premium rate numbers). If you are expecting post or packages the advice is to ring your local sorting office direct to arrange delivery or collection.

Following a recent incident in the county, residents should also be aware of fraudsters targeting mail boxes at the end of driveways. They may apply for credit cards that are posted to your address. They then force open the mail box to get the credit cards when delivered. Normally the resident will be unaware of applying for the card until they are used. Report any damage to your external mail box to 101.
