Billinghay twinners think ahead to silver anniversary
PLANS are well under way for the Billinghay and District Twinning Association visit to Ballon in France at the end of May.
The association needs the names of anyone wishing to go on the trip as soon as possible so that their French host can make the necessary arrangements at their end.
Publicity officer for the twinning association, Lou Hird, said: "The only charge will be for the coach, as the French do the entertaining.
"The cost will be no more than 120.00 per person, with accompanied children free."
Uppermost in the minds of Billinghay Twinning Association members at the moment is organising a special programme for the visit of a party from Ballon in 2011 as this will mark the 25th anniversary of the twinning agreement between the French town and Billinghay.
Lou added: "Other milestones have been in France and they have always ensured that the occasion is marked by appropriate celebrations - we have something to live up to.
"EU grants are now extremely difficult to obtain, so we are trying to raise money before the anniversary visit to ensure that the occasion is memorable.
"All costs for the French visiting us (apart from the travel) will be borne by the members at this end and fundraising is in full swing.
"We held a Countdown Quiz at the Community Rooms which was a great success."
The next fundraising event is a dinner/dance to be held at Billinghay Village Hall on March 14, which will feature music from the 60s performed by VIP duo, who include a chart topping musician from that era.
Tickets are 15.00 per person, which includes a sausage and mash supper. They can be obtained from Keith Wilkinson on 01526 860833, Mary Jackson or 01526 860489 or via any Twinning Association member.
