A GROUP of children from Ukraine have enjoyed a four-week break in Lincolnshire courtesy of a local support group.

Seven youngsters from Chernobyl were brought over to the UK and treated to a programme of events and activities.

The children were taken on visits to RAF Waddington to see the RAF police dog section, Fantasy Island, Bransby Home for Horses and Lincs FM, and a disco was held for them at the Legionnares Club in Sleaford.

At the end of their visit, they had a picnic at Belton House and visited Lincolnshire Police headquarters in Nettleham. Members of the Sleaford and Kesteven Inner Wheel were among those who hosted events for the Ukrainian party, putting on a barbecue in Ruskington for the young visitors.

Jeanette Fortnum, chairman of the Chernobyl Children Sleaford Link, said: “The kids had a grand time with the Ladies of the Inner Wheel, who want to do another barbecue for us and the chidren we have coming over next year.”
