Classic Jane Austen book tops reader poll
THE most popular book among Sleaford readers is Pride and Prejudice.
It topped a poll held by Walker's Bookshop as part of Independent Booksellers Week celebrations.
The nationwide event saw over 200 independent bookshops celebrate in various different ways. Walker's in Sleaford invited customers to vote for their favourite book.
Tim Walker, managing director of Walker's, said: "Staff in our Sleaford shop came up with this fantastic way for us to celebrate Independent Booksellers Week. It was really great to see many of our customers and staff chatting together about books and trying to decide which their favourites were."
All six of Walker's bookshops collected more than 1,100 votes between them, with the Sleaford store collecting almost a quarter of the total votes. Other popular titles included Birdsong, Twilight, To kill A Mockingbird, Angels and Demons and PS I Love You.
Each vote was entered into a prize draw for 30 worth of book vouchers and the winner was P Blankley, who voted for Stephen King's The Mist.
Chloe Tanner, manager of Walker's Sleaford's branch, said: "The variety of books that people voted for was amazing, from children's books and classics, right through to the latest blockbusting bestsellers.
"I was really pleased that Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice won; it is such a powerful story."
To celebrate the book being voted as Sleaford's favourite book, Pride and Prejudice will now be on sale for half price at Walker's Bookshop.
