Companies face jury trial over waste control charges

Two companies are to face a jury trial after today (Monday) denying charges brought under the 1990 Environmental Protection Act when they appeared before Lincoln Crown Court.

Quarrington-based Mid UK Recycling and MC Mountain and Son Ltd each denied a charge of keeping controlled waste in a manner likely to cause pollution to the environment or harm to human health. Mid UK Recycling also denied keeping controlled waste contrary to an environmental permit condition.

The two companies each denied three charges of failing to comply with an enforcement notice.

Mowbray Christopher Mountain, 43, of Burghley Park, as a director of the two companies, denied three charges involving the keeping of controlled waste. He also denied six charges of failing to comply with an enforcement notice.

The charges involve a prosecution jointly brought by the Environment Agency and Lincolnshire County Council.

Judge John Pini QC adjourned the hearing for a trial to be held in June 2017.
