Town centre paths could soon be looking much cleaner, and dog poo free, after the purchase of a new street sweeper.

Sleaford Town Council bought the Green Machine to replace its old pedestrian sweeper having managed with a handcart for the past few months.

Foreman Dave Howarth said: “We have not had one for a little while, the council decided we were doing a much better job when we had one. So we bought the Green Machine to improve service.”

The bright green sweeper will clear the streets of dust, rubbish and cigarette ends. It is greener, and much more efficient and even comes with a DEA (dog excrement attachment) for sucking up poo.

At the moment, the self-powered machine will clean town-centre streets on Mondays and Fridays – before and after the peak period of littering over the weekend.
