Dinnerlady who served 855,000 school meals hangs up her apron

Sleaford dinner lady Jean Charlton has served her last school lunch following 30 years' service with Carres Grammar School.

Jean started at Carre’s in 1986 and during that time has served with four headmasters and three catering managers. She was here when Food Hygiene ratings and Ofsted inspections were first introduced, heard the school bell ring over 68,000 times and served in the region of 855,000 school meals.

A spokesman for the school said: “Her smiling face will be sadly missed but we hope she enjoys her retirement and has many enjoyable hours sitting in the sunshine on the patio set that she bought with her collection from staff and students.” Jean is pictured here with husband Mr Charlton, head teacher Nick Law and director of finance Jeremy Green.
