A parish church has launched an interesting new attraction for visitors at Christmas time.

St Andrew’s Church at Heckington held a Festival of Nativity scenes over the weekend before Christmas and invited locals to bring in their Nativity sets to put on display.

Visitors were then invited to make a donation to view traditional displays in a simlar way to some churches hold Christmas tree festivals with local sponsors also funding to have sets displayed.

Rector of Heckington and Helpringham group of parishes, Rev Chris Harrington had promoted the idea and said: “The Nativity Festival went really well with 42 Nativity sets in the church from all over the place.

“It was amazing the amount of styles of Nativity set from one inch high to two feet tall in our crib.

“There were quite a few knitted ones too.”

It is hoped to make this an annual event.
