Fire guts body repair shop - PHOTO GALLERY
A fire has devastated a body repair business at Holdingham.
Five firecrews from Sleaford, Grantham, Billinghay and Billingborough attended a fire at Cliff Jackson’s car body repair workshop at around 8am this morning (Wednesday), where the fire quickly took hold of the building and the smoke could be seen for miles around.
Eyewitness Pip Batty said how the smoke could be seen from the A17 as she passed by, describing it as, ‘thick, toxic looking smoke’. She said: “You could see the smoke all over the A17, it was shocking, you could see it for miles and it smelt really bad. I hope the owner is insured.”
Christian Slingsby of neighbouring Hockmeyer;s garage said: “At one point when the building was properly on fire the flames must have been 20 or 30 feet high. It’s terrible.”
The fire was extinguished by 1pm.
Another eyewitness, Sharon Woodings said: “I was driving to work at 8.10am and noticed smoke coming from the roof of the garage. At that point I wasn’t sure if anyone had seen it so went round the roundabout to turn back and in that short time the whole roof was alight.
“I work at Roxholm and the the wind had taken the smoke right up there.”
