First Contact scheme set up for elderly care

IN the light of changes to care for the elderly and the planned closure of Bonner House and the switch to personal budgets, Kathy Lote of First Contact made a short presentation to Heckington Parish Council last Monday.

The First Contact scheme was set up in 2009 and Mrs Lote intends to hold an information and advice event in Heckington Village Hall in September.

First Contact provides people aged 60 and over access to a wide range of services and information to help them stay safe and well in their own home through one point of contact.

Clients complete a simple checklist on a leaflet, with a trained member of staff, on the phone or through the website. The answers indicate what is needed and prompt agencies to get in touch.

Issues such as fire and community safety, personal care, housing, heating, falls prevention, benefit entitlements, transport, social isolation, home care and caring are covered.
