Flog It expert will be at Sleaford valuation day

STAMFORD-based auction house, Batemans will be holding their first valuation day in Sleaford featuring BBC2's Flog It expert Kate Bateman.

Kate will be leading the team of valuers at the Lincolnshire Oak Hotel in East Road from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, February 13.

She was away filming only last week and Batemans' October 2009 sale hosted daytime TV favourite Bargain Hunt.

Those bringing antiques and collectables to the valuation day will be given a pre-sale auction estimate of value and the opportunity to sell at Batemans next antiques sale on March 6.

Anyone with large items of furniture is invited to contact Peter Morris on 07711 306666 for an assessment at home.

"The safe way to sell gold and jewellery is at a reputable auction house," said

Mr Morris.

"When items are correctly catalogued and protected with a reserve price it ensuressellers get the market value for their possessions.

"Following a series of complaints about gold dealers who advertise on television paying just a fraction of the scrap value of the gold content and paying nothing at all for diamonds, Sheffield Assay Office did their own research.

"Working with Trading Standards, in an undercover test, they sent scrap gold jewellery worth 190 to a company advertising on TV – and got back just 45.

"Some traders are taking advantage of people's lack of knowledge in this field."

A joint partner and valuer in the firm since 2001, Kate specialises in all things small: pottery and porcelain, jewellery, silver, objects d'art, militaria, stamps and coins, etc.
