Gang of violent muggers jailed for attacks in Sleaford

Wednesday 5pm - A GANG has been jailed for a six week campaign of violent muggings where they stamped on one victim so hard they left shoe prints on his body.

The gang, which included three brothers, mainly targeted teenagers and young men in Sleaford, leaving them traumatised and generating an atmosphere of fear in the town.

Ashley Cameron, 19, of Christchurch Road, Grantham, was jailed for four years for five robberies and an attempted robbery in October and November 2008.

Tony Cameron, 22, of the same address, was jailed for four years, admitting two robberies, attempted robbery and affray and his Ford Fiesta car used in the muggings was confiscated.

Barry Cameron, 20, of the same address, was given three-and-a-half years. He admitted three robberies, an attempted robbery and an assault. Jordan Vincent, also known as Jordan King, 19, of Edinburgh Road, Grantham, was jailed for three years, Robert Smith, 18, of Kenilworth Road, Grantham, was jailed for two years - each for robbery.

Stuart Lody, prosecuting, said the gang looked for victims using Tony Cameron's car.

The first attack was on two 15-year-old schoolboys walking home along Boston Road, Sleaford after a football match. The gang, wearing hoodies, kicked and beat them both, with one suffering a fractured eye socket and fractured jaw while the other needed hospital treatment.

The following month a 26-year-old cyclist was attacked with a baseball bat after he was approached for directions on Boston Road, Sleaford. He was punched to the ground and had 30, cigarettes and his mobile phone taken.

A week later they attacked a man in Melton Mowbray then attacked two teenagers on Grantham Road in Sleaford. Both attempted to run off but they brought one to the ground and robbed him of his trainers, wallet and mobile. He was stamped on so hard that shoe sole impressions were left on his body.

In their defence the gang expressed regret for their actions, much of it fuelled by drink.

Officer in the case DC Stuart Hoyle said: "These were very brutal crimes where excessive violence was used from the outset." He feared the attacks would have got worse if the gang had not been caught.
