Grantham magistrates send case against managing director of Mid UK Recycling Ltd to crown court

The managing director of Mid UK Recycling Ltd appeared before magistrates today accused of breaching enforcement notices.

Christopher Mountain, MD of Mid UK Recycling Ltd, which operates a site at Wilsford Heath near Ancaster, was told his case was adjourned to Lincoln Crown Court on June 20 for a plea and management hearing.

Mr Mountain, of Burghley Park, Stamford, appeared before Grantham magistrates also representing Mid UK Recycling Ltd and MC Mountain and Son Ltd which are also accused of breaching enforcement notices. No pleas were entered today.

Mr Mountain is accused of 1) Breach of an enforcement notice issued by Lincolnshire County Council issued on July 9, 2014, that between September 5, 2014, to September 18, 2015, failed before September 5, 2014, to ensure that no external storage of waste took place in an area referred to in the said notice between two buildings identified on plans as buildings 10 and 11.

2) For the same dates, failed to ensure that all material stored externally was baled and wrapped.

3) For the same dates, failed to ensure that the height of externally stored material did not exceed 3.5 metres.

He also faces the same charges listed above as the landowner for allegedly carrying on/causing/permitting an activity in breach of an enforcement notice.

A further charge alleges that on July 7, 2015, controlled waste was kept in a manner likely to cause pollution to the environment or harm to human health contrary to the Environmental Protection Act 1990. This is listed under his name both for MC Mountain and Son LTD and Mid UK Recycling - with him as a director of both.

Mr Mountain also faces a charge of failing to comply with or contravening the requirements of an environmental permit condition by failing to manage activities, identifying and minimising the risk of pollution.

The charges detailed above 1-3 and that from July 7 are also listed for MC
Mountain and Son LTD, of Quarrington.

And the charges detailed above 1-3 are further listed for Mid UK Recycling, of Quarrington, as landowners allegedly carrying on/causing/permitting the breaches. The firm also faces the charge as detailed above from July 7.
