OVER £1,000 was raised in memory of a popular Sleaford teenager over the weekend.

Adam Cook, the brother of Nathan Cook who tragically died in December of acute myeloid leukaemia, organised a charity and music night at the Barge and Bottle pub in Sleaford to raise money for cancer charities.

More than 300 people went along to the event on Friday night, with musical entertainment provided by several local bands and artists, including The Substitutes, Blonde Mistake, Little Big Band and singers Cookzee, Daryl Jupp and Haydn Leslie.

To help boost the night’s fund-raising, individuals and businesses also had the option of sponsoring one of the bands, with more than £260 raised this way.

One of the night’s highlights was the head shaving of six brave volunteers, with Adam, his dad Adrian, grandad Geoff Hardy, uncle Neil Wood and friends Ayoub Sinclair and Elliot Wood agreeing to have their hair shaved off.

Providing the haircuts were hairdressers Jake Gammage and Lucas and Michelle from Designers Hair and Beauty in Sleaford.

Adam commented on his newly smoothed head: “It felt very cold on my head afterwards. When I went out on Saturday it was freezing.”

Overall, the event raised £1,263, which will be divided between cancer charities Cancer Research UK and ClicSargant.

Adam added: “The night went really well and it brought the total amount we’ve raised in Nathan’s name to over £3,000.

“We’d just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who came on the night and, in particular, the bands, our MC Ben Shannon and Mick Wells and all of the staff at the Barge and Bottle.”
