Host families needed for Chernobyl visitors

PEOPLE interested in helping children from Chernobyl are being invited to attend a meeting next week.

The Sleaford link of Chernobyl Children Lifeline will be hosting the meeting at the Legionnaires Club in Sleaford on Wednesday, February 1, starting at 7.30pm.

It is being held to discuss the next visit of Belarusian children suffering from the after effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

The Sleaford Link chairman Jeanette Fortnum said that they need more host families to look after a visiting child.

The children will be aged between seven and 15 and you can choose to host either a girl or a boy.

To help boost funds for the children’s visit, the Sleaford link are planning to host a 60’s party at the Legionnaire’s Club on Saturday, March 3.

Fancy dress is optional. Tickets for the event cost £10 and are available by calling Jeanette on the number below.

She said: “It’s a privilege to host a child from Chernobyl to give them four weeks in a healthy environment. It does them the world of good.”

The children will be visiting from July 21 to August 18.

Anyone who would be willing to act as a host or who would be interested in helping out with fund-raising for the visit, should contact Jeanette on 01522 730785.
