Households' festive lights raise more than £300 for charity

A CHRISTMAS light display raised £326 for charity.

Two houses in Elmtree Road, Ruskington – numbers 89 and 91 – put up a spectacular light display over the festive period.

All the money donated by appreciative people who came to see the lights was split between three charities - St Barnabas' Hospice, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and Critically Ill Local Youngsters.

The latter is chaired by Jacky Cooper, who jointly created the display.

She said: "We help families of children who are critically ill. Often in these cases one of the parents has to give up work, so we offer them money, especially in the first few weeks, to pay for petrol and food.

"We've helped pay for one child in the village to go on holiday before."

The charity is currently raising money for a six-year-old boy from Grantham who has cancer.

The light display has become a regular annual feature in Ruskington and Jacky is appealing for donations of prizes, toys, bric-a-brac and unwanted Christmas lights to use later this year.

Every child who visits on opening night receives a present from Santa. To contribute call 01526 830911.
