Ruskington rocker Hugh Maynard and his group Tenors of Rock failed to make it through to the next stage of the X Factor.
They impressed the judges, including group mentor Gary Barlow, in tonight’s (Sunday’s) show known as Bootcamp.
He told them: “Guys, there’s no question about it that was a great performance.”
However, he then added: “I have to question the relevance of this act right now.”
Despite this, he still gave them a spot in his final six to go forward to the next stage of the competition - known as judges houses. However, in a cruel twist their place was taken by another group - with Gary opting to replace them.
Last week Hugh told The Standard he wanted the Take That star as his mentor.
He said: “He’s been in a group and then came back and was in a man band, a bit like us. He’s a fantastic songwriter and he’s got a lot of respect in the industry.”
