It's chocs away for Jan's Easter egg ambucopter
A POPULAR handmade chocolate shop has made a giant egg in the shape of a helicopter as a charity fundraiser.
Jan Hansen, who runs Hansen's Handmade Chocolates of Folkingham, has been busy constructing a chocolate air ambulance based on a two-and-a-half foot high chocolate egg.
He told the Standard: "We have used our biggest egg mould to make an ambucopter out of it."
He has spent a couple of days moulding the tail, rotor blades and skids to the egg in readiness for it to take centre stage at a chocolate tasting weekend this Saturday and Sunday.
Customers at the shop will be challenged to guess the weight of the helicopter for a donation to the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance charity with a view to winning the giant egg.
Mr Hansen said: "I'm not very good at designing helicopters and it has been a case of trying to find ways of sticking on the propellers. It is amazing what you can make out of an egg."
He said it was approaching his busy time of year having just had Mother's Day and Easter coming up.
He added: "I have made tiny ones before but this one is so wide and with the propellers it is massive. A few years back we made a six foot high egg for the children of Great Ormond Street Hospital and placed it in its own cup which meant it stood nearly seven feet tall."
You can see the choco-copter at the Folkingham shop between 9am and 5pm on Saturday or from 10am to 5pm on Sunday.
