Kirstey loses her locks for Help for Heroes and the Little Princess Trust

Kirstey Clay had her head shaved last month in aid of Help for Heroes and the Little Princess Trust, and she was thrilled to be ranked within the top five per cent of fundraisers using the Justgiving online fundraising site in June – out of 67,626 listed.

Kirstey donated her locks to the Little Princess Trust, which provides real-hair wigs for children whohave lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

She also raised more than £1,100 for Help For Heroes, exceeding her target of £1,000.

Student Kirstey, 21, was inspired after finding the Little Princess Trust website while doing some research.

She said: “I felt I could give up my hair. I didn’t need it as much as the child and, by realising that, it was easier for me.”

Kirstey set up a Just Giving page and, with family connections in the military, she chose to raise cash for the Help For Heroes charity as well. Her great uncle fought in the Second World War, and her partner is in the RAF.

“I believe our soldiers need more respect and recognition for what they do,” said Kirstey.

The prospect of losing your hair evokes fear in some, but Kirstey wasn’t particularly fazed by the idea and said goodbye to her long blonde locks at the end of June.

“It changes your image for a long time, but it’s so worth it,” she said.
